Making An Easy One Layered Card - Featuring Avery Elle and Copic Coloring

Hey folks!

I'm back today to share a super easy and super fast one layered card with you all!

It's no secret that I love to mask and build up the images on a card. However, sometimes it's great to skip the masking and get the same effect. That's what I've done on my card today folks.

If you're interested in any of the products I've used, I have links (some affiliate links) throughout and at the end of the post. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.

I'm a sucker for butterflies and if you make them rainbow and I will clap my hands like a demented seal. For real. So today I used the Butterflies Stamp Set by Avery Elle and did some basic Copic Coloring (color choices in thumbnail links below) in a rainbow color scheme.

On Neenah White Cardstock, I stamped my images in Simon Says Stamp Intense Black Ink with my MISTI Stamping Tool. You don't need a MISTI, but I'm a manic and it's almost impossible for me to line up my stamps again with a regular block.

Instead of taking the time to make masks and then mask off my images, I made sure to stamp each one as close to the other as I could get. Here's the deal though. Sometimes you can totally cheat and you CAN overlap them. This stamp set is a great example. Since the largest butterflies had a wider space of black around them, I could stamp the smaller ones just on the inside of that and you would never know I didn't mask. Also, I overlapped the purple butterfly over the blue one and instead of trying to color it in so dark you couldn't tell, I made it work for me and just played it off like the purple wings are a bit transparent. Easy Peasy.

Starting with my lightest Copic color, closest to the butterflies body, I would use flicking motions, a very light hand and flick towards the outside edges and again from the outside edges of the wings towards the body. Lightest to darkest, darkest to lightest for all of the butterflies. It's super important to make sure your preserving that highlight in the middle of the wings as you build up your colors. Your goal is to make those wings look "curved" when your done. This is a really easy was to color with Copic's, I promise. Kelly Latevola has many videos showing how this is done. You can go HERE to see an excellent example of her using this technique.

With Simon Says Stamp Smoke Ink, I stamped a solid butterfly from the stamp set on the panel as well. Although, I just realized that I should have given those guys a shadow as well. Oh well.

I added some Clear Spectrum Noir Glitter Pen on to the highlights of the wings, Sakura Black Glaze Pen to the bodies and some Moonbeam Sequins by Kennedy Grace Creations (I heart these so much!) to finish it off.

That's it! Easy peasy.

Speaking of butterflies...Butterfly Reflections Ink is having a sale until tomorrow peeps. 25% off is a great deal, so be sure to check it out!

Thanks so much for stopping by to see me and as always I hope you enjoyed my card today!

Until next time!
