Bugaboo Bear Designs - Foiled Hand Lettering

Hey folks!

I'm back today to share a quick card with you all! The card I'm sharing was for my daughter's high school graduation and although there were a few steps involved in the making of these (think 35), but they really were super duper easy to put together. Honest engine.

If you're interested in any of the products I've used, I have links (some affiliate links) throughout and at the end of the post. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.

My daughter wanted something really simple and easy for her grad announcements. Four years of NOTHING simple or easy and now she wants it? Sheesh. Anyway, when I came across Amanda from Bugaboo Bear Designs, I was over the moon for her work and my daughter was in love with this phrase.

Here's the deal peeps, Amanda DOESN'T sell digital products. All of her pieces are hand lettered and hand painted by her. You can see her work HERE in her Easy shop. However, I really (really, really) wanted to do this in foil so I asked PRETTY PLEASE and she was kind enough to make an exception for me.

First, I imported the image into the program on my on my computer (I use a Mac, so I used Pages.) and sized it to the dimensions I needed. These were going to be 5.5" x 5.5" cards and I knew I wanted a thin border showing behind it, so I made sure that each foiled panel would trim down to 5"x 5".

Once I had the dimensions I wanted, I printed them out with my HP LaserJet Pro P1109w Printer on Card & Pockets Matte 8 1/2 x 11 White Cardstock. I could get 2 panels to each page. By the way, I really enjoyed this cardstock folks. It's a beautiful bright white, it prints really well aaaand the price for a 25 pack is awesome.

I trimmed each of the panels down with my Fiskars Paper Trimmer. While I was at it, I also trimmed down the Cards & Pockets Metallic 8 1/2 x 11 Gold Cardstock to 5.25" x 5.25" and the Card & Pockets Matte 8 1/2 x 11 Sapphire Cardstock to 5.5" x 11". I used the Simon Says Stamp Teflon Bone Folder to score each of the Sapphire Card Bases at 5.5" to make top folder cards. You could totally use 12" x 12" papers and make this way more efficient with less waste peeps. I really just loved the colors and the quality of the Cards & Pockets cardstock, so I had noo problems in terms of having scraps lot over.

Then, I took each of my printed panels and using Heidi Swapp Blue Foil, I ran each of them through both my Heidi Swapp Mini MINC Machine and my Royal Sovereign Laminator. Since I have both, it was handy dandy to use them both to save time. If you would like to see what the process is like, Jennifer McGuire has a few AH-mazing videos that you can check out.

To put them all together was crazy simple. I just added Fun Foam to the backs of each the foiled panels and adhered each of the layers to the card base. I left off embellies, because I really felt the foil was enough.

That's it! Easy peasy.

Thanks so much for stopping by to see me and as always, I hope you enjoyed my card today!

Until next time!

  1. Brilliant. Sometimes the simplest designs are the most elegant. Well done and pretty! (And people who can hand letter have my utmost admiration.)
